DEVELOPMENT OF JAPONICA TYPE CYTOPLASMIC MALE STERILE (CMS) RICE LINES FOR COMMERCIAL HYBRID RICE IN MEDITERRANEAN ECOLOGICAL CONDITION

نویسندگان

چکیده

Hybrid rice has an average 15 % to 20 yield advantage over inbred lines. The availability of stable cytoplasmic male sterility system is vital for commercial hybrid rice. experiment was conducted develop japonica type CMS lines national varieties. National varieties were tested determine as maintainer, or restorer features via test cross. crosses made by using 19 and 21 1 line. All which are determined maintainer features. In addition to, 5 introduction adapted Mediterranean ecological condition breeding process. Two backcrossed 6 generations it developed similar agronomic 100% spikelet sterile For production Osmancik-97 Kiziltan, employed wild abortive V20A. Successive backcrossing succeeded produce completely Wild cytoplasm did not affect characteristic. Since one the most popular used a donor gene new varieties, WA-CMS Kiziltan will be useful breeding.

Functional Marker Assisted Improvement of Stable Cytoplasmic Male Sterile Lines of Rice for Bacterial Blight Resistance

Bacterial blight (BB), caused by Xanthomonas oryzae pv.oryzae is one among the major diseases in rice, which in severe condition cause losses up to 60% in total yield. Marker assisted pyramiding of three broad spectrum BB resistance genes (xa5, xa13, and Xa21) in prominent rice varieties is the most economical and effective strategy for the management of the BB disease. We report here the pyram...

Identification of potential maintainers and restorers using cytoplasmic male sterile lines in rice

Eight CMS lines were crossed as lines with 31 genotypes as ‘testers’ to get 248 hybrids. The 248 hybrids were subjected to pollen and spikelet fertility analysis. Among the 248 hybrids 168 hybrids were expressed as restorers 52 as PR, 28 as maintainers. Ten tester’s viz., IR 62037, IR 72865, IR 68427, MDU5, TP1021, RR363-1, RR 347-1, RR 286-1, ACK 99017 and ASD06-08 were identified as restorers...

Development of Novel Glyphosate-Tolerant Japonica Rice Lines: A Step Toward Commercial Release

Glyphosate is the most widely used herbicide for its low cost and high efficiency. However, it is rarely applied directly in rice field due to its toxicity to rice. Therefore, glyphosate-tolerant rice can greatly decrease the cost of rice production and provide a more effective weed management strategy. Although, several approaches to develop transgenic rice with glyphosate tolerance have been ...

Suppressed expression of Retrograde-Regulated Male Sterility restores pollen fertility in cytoplasmic male sterile rice plants.

Conflict/reconciliation between mitochondria and nuclei in plants is manifested by the fate of pollen (viable or nonviable) in the cytoplasmic male sterility (CMS)/fertility restoration (Rf) system. Through positional cloning, we identified a nuclear candidate gene, RETROGRADE-REGULATED MALE STERILITY (RMS) for Rf17, a fertility restorer gene for Chinese wild rice (CW)-type CMS in rice (Oryza s...

molecular purity assessment of rice cms lines

the cytoplasmic male sterile (cms) lines that are used in production of hybrid seeds in three-line system often get contaminated with their maintainer lines. using such impure cms lines in rice hybrid seed production lead to un-uniformity and yield loss in hybrid rice. laborious and time consuming phenotypic evaluations are used for elimination of off-type plants in cms multiplication farms. th...
